Helicopter Operations for Search & Rescue (SAR) Introduction

Helicopters are rotary winged aircraft that bring incredible value to aerial search operations, in part because of their ability to hover, takeoff, and land vertically.

This vertical maneuverability is used for a variety of missions including:

  • Force movement
  • Cargo transport
  • Offshore rig support
  • Law enforcement purposes
  • Aerial firefighting
  • Re-supply services
  • Search & Rescue (SAR) Operations
  • Incident spotting/reconnaissance

This course focuses on the use of Helicopters in Search & Rescue (SAR) Operations.

  • The material is intended for responders who are involved or expect to be involved with helicopters as passengers or crew members.
  • The course will provide the knowledge and awareness needed to travel inside or within proximity of a helicopter during SAR Operations.
