The best practice for passing information through an organized system such as ICS is the ICS 213 General Message form, or equivalent.
The benefits, of course, are that the forms are widely known, widely used and therefore provide standardization and useful consistency while relaying information.
- Because they provide a paper trail that documents the flow of incident information, it's advisable to make and keep a copy of any 213 GM before it is passed on or turned in.
